Free Rhode Island Parolee Lookup
Find out if someone you know or love was released from prison on parole in Rhode Island, free of charge.

Conduct a free Rhode Island parole search to track down readily available information on anyone in the state.

Parole records pertain to data of heavy case law offenders in early release from prison with conditions that, if violated, could send individuals back to jail. In contrast, probation refers to court-ordered supervision for less serious offenders out of jail while being held accountable for previous actions. Searchers must know which agencies retain and share parole data to obtain these records.

This resource provides information on how to perform parolee lookups using vital resources and databases offered and run by Rhode Island state, its counties, or its cities. Citizens will be guided on how to find parole violators, absconders, offenses, court hearings, case administrators, and — to a lesser extent — probationers.

How To Run a Free Rhode Island Parole Search

The state’s Department of Corrections allow access to public records under Rhode Island’s Access to Public Records Act or the R.I. General Laws § 38-2-1, which states that all documents, papers, tapes, books, letter, photographs, films, sound recording, electronic databases and other physical forms can be deemed to the public, unless if the disclosure of the record or information:1

  2. Could deprive the right of the person involved to a fair trial
  3. Could constitute an unwarranted invasion of privacy
  4. Could disclose the identity of a confidential source or agency
  5. Would disclose techniques and procedures for law enforcement investigation and proceedings
  6. Could endanger the life and physical safety of an individual

The Parole Board of Rhode Island allows the issuance of a parole permit once an eligible inmate has served no less than one-third (1/3) of their prison sentence. Eligible parolees must fill up an application form to be submitted to their parole officers.2

By year 2022, parolees rate ranges up to 31%, it is the lowest count compared to the years 2019 to 2021. To know more about the current parole statistics and laws on parole, the Rhode Island Parole Board allows the public to access a downloadable fact sheet.

The Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) features an inmate search tool for informational purposes.4 When searching, information such as an inmate’s full name, ID number, age range, and gender may be used. The information provided by Rhode Island’s inmate search system considerably improves openness and public safety by allowing residents to stay updated on an offender’s situation.

The inmate’s current custody status, sentence length, projected release date, and the facility where the offender is being held are also visible on the RIDOC search tool. However, disclaimer to any responsibilities such as inaccuracy or omission. Furthermore, it is critical to note that the database only includes incarcerated Rhode Island residents and those under the supervision of the RIDOC.

Individuals moved to facilities in other states, those in federal custody, or those in juvenile detention camps are not included in this localized database.

The public may also request an actual copy of parole records, which can be made through telephone, letter, fax or email. However, this alone is not free of charge. The cost of each copied page is fifteen cents ($0.15). Searching and/or retrieving is fifteen dollars ($15.00) per hour, but the first hour is free.

Check Who Has Violated Parole or Is on the Run in Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) has created alliances with city and town police departments throughout the state to ensure the safety of every citizen.

When parole is granted, the Parole Board carefully establishes conditions for the parolee, who will subsequently be closely monitored in the community by a parole officer assigned by RIDOC’s Probation & Parole Division.

For instance, if a parolee breaches any of the terms of release, including being arrested on a new offense, a warrant may be issued, and the parolee may be remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions for a parole revocation hearing before the Parole Board.

The Kansas Department of Corrections provides a user-friendly criminal justice information system database that allows the public to retrieve a long docket list of parole absconders under several locations. Locations may be selected, including 105 Kansas counties and facilities, US federals, and other states — including Rhode Island.

Docket information includes mugshots, department number, name type, offender’s name, gender, race, birth, age, and the absconded date. For more information about the offender, an offender search may also be visited.5

In cases of return of absconders, an affidavit and other documentation must be submitted for further consideration and judgment as per indicated by Article V of R.I. Gen. Laws § 14-6.2-1.

Individuals who want to find inmates in a state prison may utilize the Rhode Island Department of Corrections’ RIDOC offender search to discover an inmate who is currently incarcerated in the state. Read the disclaimer and accept to proceed.

An individual may search through inmate ID, but other options for search are available, such as personal information like first and last name, name type, race, sex, minimum age and maximum age to narrow down lists, and the last know the city of incarceration.

After hitting search, lists of state prison inmates will appear in detail, including their security status. Once the target inmate is found, you may access additional information by clicking the name.

To search for sex offender inmates within the state, the Rhode Island State Police provides an offender registry.7 Searchers may locate a published offender by last or first name. Both actual match and partial match will be listed.

Results offer mugshots, alert status, name, address, city, zip, type and further details of the law offender. Other information regarding the conviction of the law offender can be assessed by clicking on the inmate’s name.

RIDOC, in partnership with Securus Technology, provides a digital way for the public to obtain inmate-specific and general facility information, including but not limited to money deposit and mail sending, over the phone by dialing 401-414-2871.8

Different facilities hold different visiting schedules depending on warden decisions. RIDOC website, on the other hand, provides valuable visitation policies that individuals must check.9

Another means of obtaining information on inmates within the state prison is through the VINElink electronic platform. It provides information on offender’s custody and offers a free service, including toll-free phone support.

How To Track Down Rhode Island Probationers for Free

This section offers a clear distinction on the differences between parole and probation. Both legal jurisdictions are run along the community out of prison but with comparable status.

Probation is a viable substitute to prison that judges utilize as a sentencing option after an adult is judged in a criminal court for minor offenses (such as driving while drunk, theft, assault, sex offenses, possession of firearms, burglary, and the like).

Whereas parole is granted for significant and grave offenses, by which offenders who have served a portion of their prison sentence may request that the Parole Board grant discretionary release to serve the remainder of their jail sentence in the community under specific conditions.

Probation information can be obtained from state, county, and local department authorities.

The RIDOC Inmate Search offers a wider range of listing of inmates throughout the states, including those in probation status as long as they are incarcerated in the state itself. Victim Information & Notification Everyday (RI-VINE) may also release such results by selecting the state where the inmate being looked for has been previously incarcerated.

If an individual wants to verify a criminal case or offender, Rhode Island State Police also provide means for the public to obtain criminal information through the Access to Public Records Act (APRA).

To obtain information, individuals must fill out the Public Records Request Form constituted by the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety Access to Public Records Regulation.12, 13

Completed forms should be submitted via fax to 401-444-1105 or via email to records@risp.gov.

Postal mail can be submitted to:

RI Department of Public Safety Legal Office
311 Danielson Pike,
North Scituate, RI 02857

Additionally, an informative and expanded copy of the Regional Office Directory was made available to the public for probation and parole-related inquiry purposes by the RIDOC Adult Probation & Parole Administrative Office.14

The Rhode Island Probation Main Office, found in Providence County, allows walk-in inquirers and provides rules and conditions prior to entering the office.15

Aside from the abovementioned agencies, many third-party search sites also provide features for searching probation records.

The state of Rhode Island values the importance of victim rights yet respects discrete information about offenders currently on parole and probation. Thus, it provides very intact search tools to disseminate information carefully, with public transparency, through coordination with other legal authorities.

Utilize this concise resource to find the best methods of conducting a Rhode Island parole search in no time.
